Happy 40th Anniversary - Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood
I would be one of the worst Yinzer Mafia members ever if I did not mention that today marks the 40th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood television show.
If you have never watched his goodbye message from his last show, I suggest you have a tissue ready. It might get a bit dusty around here.
There’s a great NPR piece, from a couple years ago, about a guy who wrote Mr. Rogers when he was little about his troubled family. Mr. Rogers corresponded with the kid for a few years, but then lost touch. Almost 15 years later, the guy finally got back in touch with Mr. Rogers and they actually met. Mr. Rogers remembered everything about the kid and his family. It was probably one of the most touching pieces I’ve ever heard. How a guy, who ran a world famous children’s TV program, could remember one kid and actually care… damn.
Captain Kangaroo never gave me that kind of love.

Fantastic find. My favorites were when he went to the candle factory and when he went to the Crayon factory.
Oh, and my old college…totally pimped Fred everywhere.
